  Notes	Name Suffix: Laird of Duffus Sir Reginald le Chein (nephew of John Cumyn, lord of Badenoch, who waskilled by Bruce at Dunfries in 1305), was great chamberlain of Scotlandfrom 1267 to 1269. He was baron of Inverugie, Strabruck, &c inAberdeenshire, where, as well as in Caithness-shire, he had immenceestates. In 1285, he gave the lands of Ardingy and Leuchandy, in theparish of Fyvie, in the former county, to the priory of Fyvie, inconnection with the abbey of Arbreath. He is generally styled pater, todistinguish him from his son of the same name. Sir Reginald was one ofthe Magnates Scotiæ, wo concurred in settling the succession of the crownon Margaret of Norway, grand-daughter of Alexander the Third in 1284. Hewas also one of the barons who in 1289 addressed Edward the First ofEngland, on the subject of a marriage between the young queen of Scotsand his son the prince of Wales, with the view of uniting the kingdoms.He made his submission to the English monarch at Abardeen, on 17th July1296, and his name, as well as that of Reginaldus le Chein, filius, isfound in the Ragman Roll.
