The first Boggesses moved across the mountains to what was then Virginia around 1800 from Maryland. They first settled in Monongalia County, and then in 1811 moved to the Jones Run area of Harrison County. James Clifford immigrated from County Mayo, Ireland in 1847 to New Brunswick, Canada. By 1850 he had settled in Clarksburg. The Wilsons were from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Dr. James Wilson moved to Clarksburg in 1904 to set up his medical practice. By 1911 he brought the first x-ray equipment to the region.
